Wrest Park is nearby, where staff following the last visitors out at closing time sometimes find there's nobody to follow.
Wrest Park at Silsoe, home of the de Grey family for centuries, is famous for its formal gardens and French-style mansion, now cared for by English Heritage. Staff and visitors report stranger things too. Footsteps are heard in the dark basement and in empty rooms upstairs, a rope has been seen swinging by itself, and a woman with long black hair is sometimes glimpsed standing at a window near the basement. Near closing time, figures are seen walking towards the pavilion or into the woods, but when staff follow to make sure everyone has left, there is nobody there.
