Here in West Wycombe, this old coaching inn is said to be haunted by Sukie, a serving girl lured to the caves by a forged love letter.
The George and Dragon is an 18th-century coaching inn on West Wycombe's High Street. Tradition says Sukie, a serving girl here, hoped to escape her station by winning a wealthy admirer, and turned down three village lads. Jealous, they forged a letter from the gentleman telling her to put on a white dress and meet him at the caves under the hill so they could elope. Inside, the lads ambushed her and in the dark she was fatally hurt. She was carried back to her room at the inn, where she never woke. A girl in white is said to haunt the pub, and the caves too.
